Here’s the capstone paper I wrote for my master’s degree. I read about agroforestry systems from around the world, and figured out how they might apply to the Northeast US.

In the paper, I look at silvopasture systems and take a deep dive into intensive silvopasture, where livestock eat the leaves from densely-planted trees and shrubs. I talk about forest farming of mushrooms and medicinal plants like ginseng. I describe how windbreaks and alley cropping systems can help out the predators of various pests, which provides some conservation biocontrol. I look at riparian buffers, especially in the context of livestock operations, and home gardens (i.e. edible forest gardens), which have a long history and a potentially bright future.
